Alicia
Bresee, teacher and artist, has been a resident of Fort
Lauderdale, Florida since 1977. Originally from Illinois, she
received her bachelor's degree in art at Denison University in
Ohio, and her master's degree from Florida Atlantic University.
Throughout a career in teaching, painting has always been a high
priority for Alicia. After teaching art at the high school level
in Ohio and Illinois, she came to Florida where she was a
teacher of gifted in Broward public schools. Currently she is
the middle school art teacher at Pine Crest School, where she
has been for 21 years. She spends evenings, weekends, and
summers pursuing her love of painting, which has recently been
devoted to the illustration of countries for
My Heritage Book.
Painting in the impressionistic style, Alicia works in oil with
brush or knife. As a plein-air painter, she prefers to begin her
landscapes on location. In the studio setting, she completes her
work, using sketches and photographs as references. She has
enjoyed painting outdoors during summer trips to numerous
locations throughout the country. Since Alicia's opportunity to
illustrate My Heritage Book, she has rediscovered the joy of
creating with casein paint, a medium she enjoyed during her
college years. She also incorporates pen and ink into some of
the more detailed architectural images.
Most of Alicia's painting is done by commission. One of her
impressionistic landscapes of the Everglades hangs in the
Capitol in Tallahassee, and she has completed gift paintings for
Betty Ford, Harvard Business School, and Pine Crest School. Her
work can be seen in many private collections in Florida and
Illinois. Alicia's daughter, Stephanie, lives in Fairfield,
Connecticut and her
son, Brent, daughter-in-law, Linda, and granddaughter,
Casey, reside in San Francisco. |
